One of the leading trumpet players in the world, the prolific jazz artist Paolo Fresu has recorded around 500 titles since the 1980s. Born in 1961 in Sardinia (Italy), Fresu began playing the trumpet at the age of 11 and later studied the instrument at the Conservatory of Cagliari. After graduating in 1984, he quickly gained international awards, such as the Académie du Jazz in France and a Django d’Or. With a sound reminiscent of Miles Davis’ 1950s era, Fresu has created his own style, mastering any genre, from straight-ahead jazz to fusion.

In addition to recording and performing, Fresu is also the artistic director of Berchidda’s Time in Jazz, the jazz festival in his hometown. He is involved in numerous multimedia projects, collaborating with actors, dancers, painters, sculptors, and poets, and composing music for films, documentaries, videos, ballets, and theatrical works. Mr. Fresu divides his time between Paris, Bologna, and Sardinia. His unique trumpet sound is recognized as one of the most distinctive in contemporary jazz.

He has been awarded the prestigious honoris causa title from the University of Milan, a master’s degree from Berklee School of Music in New York, and the historic “Sigillo di Ateneo” from the University of Urbino.
